What is Daily Rest Period

Daily Rest Period is the period of rest in-between an employee's shifts times. Use daily rest period rules to display an alert on the schedule when an employee's shift times are in breach of daily rest periods in each 24 hour period. There are three options when setting Daily Rest Period rules:

  1. Don't apply: This option means that no daily rest period rules will be set up or applied.

  2. One rule for All Employees: This option means that adding the same rule of number of hours between shifts for all employees.

  3. Age based rule: This option means you can create rules based on different age groups.

How to set up Daily Rest Period rules on Bizimply

Please note: Only an account admin can set up Daily Rest Period rules on Bizimply.

  1. Sign into bizimply.com as an account admin

  2. Click your name/email at top right of the screen

  3. Select 'Settings' from the drop down menu

  4. On the left, click into 'Employees' and then into 'Compliance Alerts'

  5. Select how the Daily Rest Period rules should apply from the three options: 1. Don't apply, 2. One rule for All Employees or 3. Age based rule.

6. For option 2. One rule for All Employees, enter in the number of hours between shifts that all employees should receive as seen in the example image above.

7. For option 3. Age based rule, enter in the two ages and the number of hours between shifts that employees that are those ages should receive. Click the 'Add Rule' button to enter in the next two ages and the number of hours that between shifts that employees that are those ages should receive. Please see example image above.

8. Click the blue save button at the bottom

Where to view when daily rest period rules are broken

An alert will display when daily rest period rules have been broken when creating a schedule.

When an employee has been scheduled to work two shifts that are in breach of the daily rest periods in a 24 hour period, an alarm bell icon will appear beside their name on the schedule. This will prompt you to check the 'Compliance Checks' tabs at the bottom of the screen. It is here where any Daily Rest Period Deviations will appear.

In the example below, Micheal was scheduled to finish at 10pm on Wednesday and start work again at 7am on Thursday which is 9 hours between these two daily shifts. This breaches the daily rest period rule set of 11 hours.

Reporting on Daily Rest Periods

The Labour Hours Report can be used to report on any daily rest period rules that are scheduled to be broken.

  1. Go to 'Reports' tab

  2. Go to 'Compliance Reports' on left and select 'Labour Hours'

  3. Select the relevant date range

  4. Select relevant locations and relevant employees

  5. Select type as 'Scheduled Hours'

  6. Click 'Export'
